A South African Wine Dinner at Kaia

Howzit Gastronauts

Howzit Gastronauts!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Well, at least for Curtiss and Carveth, who we’re thrilled to announce have just welcomed another Gastronaut into the world. (That said, he hasn’t filled out his application yet, so membership is technically still pending.) But since they’re all sunshine and moonbeams and rose-colored glasses, we thought: what better way to celebrate than with the Rainbow Nation? That’s right — it’s another first for Gastronauts: a South African dinner.

Now, if all you know of South African food is Nando’s we need to talk. Sure, it can be a bit hard to wrap one’s head around braai and biltong and bunny chow, and that peculiar mix of Dutch and African BBQ culture. But even if you’re a card-carrying regular at Fort Greene’s Madiba, you’ve never seen anything like what we have in store. On the Upper East Side, we found a place with, frankly, unpronounceable dishes that are going to blow your mind. Just try and tell us the last time you had ostrich neck.

Ivan, the chef, isn’t messing around in the kitchen — seriously: elk heart tartare? — and our friend Suzaan has picked some fine local wines to accompany. But I’m sure if you bring something nice and bubbly Curtiss won’t object…

Come join us for the last Gastronauts of 2015 before the holiday madness, pick up some seriously awesome artisinal biltong for a stocking stuffer, and let’s toast the end of a year to remember.
