A Borderline Delicious Dinner

A few scandals have cleaned up the Cheval game in Quebec, and now Montreal—our second-favorite ville in the Northeast—is newly flush with high-quality horse. Naturally, we went to get some.

Once again we decided no smuggling. And once again, at the border U.S. Customs Officer D. Downer said “NO.” (Also: surprisingly high staff levels considering they’re a Federal agency…) But we were prepared (smug not smuggle), ready with days of internet research and a dossier of docs from USDA’s APHIS—the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. “Sure, officer—We’d love to take your word for it… but let’s look up PR100464 together.” After a friendly, but firm correction—“See, officer, it’s commercially prohibited, but completely fine for personal use”—we were over the hurdle and back in the U.S., riding 30lbs of high horse named USDA Technicality.

All of this adds up to great news for you: Gastronauts is back and so is our tradition of serving up the best steak tartare you’ll ever have (Yes, we will soon do reindeer again for comparison). Chef Jacques will conjure up some other dishes for us: This time we are going Trad French Canadien, with a little bit of seasonal ramps. Ca c’est bon!

So, dress up, practice your singing and podorythmie, and sign up fast! Spots and steaks are limited, and god only knows how much longer Canada will let us into their country.
