Pigs, Pigs, Pigs, at Ornella

Gastronauts!

We have a bit of additional news: A Long Island chapter of the Gastronauts has formed, and will have its first dinner next Monday. Email us at josh@gastronauts.net if you’re interested.

Summer is upon us—well, some version of it, at least: Time to get out our t-shirts and rain boots! In spite of the the cold and rain, we’re heading to the N—train-northern beaches of Italian Astroia to lovely Ditmars Boulevard. Our friends at Ornella Trattoria are preparing a specail festa di maiale for us and feeding us everything from naso to coda.

We’ve had our eye on this little Italian gem for a while… ever since they had a secret—but we know about it—Casu Marzu party… you know, that Sardinian cheese filled with little white insect larvae…. Alas, it’s not in the cards for us this time, but Giuseppe’s cake made with pig’s blood will be on the menu. And Signor Viterale is going all out for his Gatronauts guests: Pig’s snout, tripe, and Pig’s feet, especially for us to wash down with some lovely vino.

So, join us for a cheat day from the beach bod diet, and come with us to Astoria for a cena in famiglia with lots of vino and friends. And bring friends. This one will be fun!
